Andrew Shields, Special Counsel for Nyst Legal. 

Andrew is a specialist in financial services and compliance, particularly as applying to Timeshare and Hospitality.   He has extensive experience in registered managed investment schemes, Australian Financial Services (AFS) licensing requirements, and Australian Credit Licence (ACL) Responsible Lending requirements. He advises on Future of Financial Advice (FOFA) requirements under the Corporations Law, investigations by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, Credit and Investments Ombudsman and Financial Ombudsman Service, and ASIC regulatory requirements, as well as Privacy issues, Do Not Call and SPAM legislation, and other Telemarketing restrictions.

In 2007 he was awarded the Professionalism Award by ATHOC (Australian Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council) and in 2012 he was presented with ATHOC’s highest award – Outstanding Contribution to the Industry.

Prior to his move to the Gold Coast Andrew was working at one of Brisbane’s leading litigation firms, as a senior construction lawyer. He advises contractors and sub-contractors on all facets of construction law including payment claims arising under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (Qld) (“BCIPA”).

Andrew is an accredited Mediator and a published commentator on Mediation and International Arbitration in the construction field.
